Battlefield 2: Aim Down Your Sights Review

battlefield 2 wallpaper battlefield 2 aim down your sights

You may or may not have heard about Battlefield 2, if you have not i will do the honors of enlightening you. Battlefield 2, which we will refer to as BF2, is the sequel to EA games battlefield 1942. The game is basically made for multiplayer matches, there is no campaign, at least not in BF2. I have spent many hours playing this game online and offline. Basically, you select a map in BF2, change the settings, and play. Whenever you play single player, it will make a LAN game that people on your network can join, its similar to counter strike, you just make a map with or without bots and start playing.

The Gameplay

The gameplay in BF2 is quite similar to other games under its genre. You do not buy guns in this game, you can select from the list of available weapon packages every time you spawn, for example in the Anti tank class the primary weapon you use is a RPG, etc. Maps are designed depending on the mood of the EA programmers, but most of the maps that are included with the game are set in a city of sorts. You can find many ladders to climb ontop of various buildings to give sniper support, and if you want to get down from the building you can just jump off and tap “9″ or whatever the “pull parachute” key is set to, 9 is default. If you parachute comes out on time you will have a soft landing, if not, you will either die or loss a considerable amount of health. If your health gets low you can call the nearest medic, and he will attempt to help you. You can be a medic if you want to and heal or revive players, you can also select the class that allows you to give ammo to other players. The game is designed in a way that if you use team play properly you can dispose of the opposing force, its all about how you use your team. Oh and of course you can use a wide variety of vehicles, from quad bikes to helicopters and fighter jetts.

Squads

One thing i really like about BF2 is the squads. You can choose to create or join a squad under the map, if you create one you will be the leader, meaning you can give out instructions your squad members or call in a air strike. You can also communicate with other squad leaders to synchronize attacks. Again, its all about how you control your team, you can get allot further in the game by using squads and giving smart orders than just running in by yourself and aimlessly attacking random enemies. Sure, you can win by charging in and testing your combat skills against the other team, but it is best if you use squads and command your team properly.

The Graphics

The graphics in the game are quite simple, yet really well done. The game was made in 2005, so you can not expect such good graphics, but never the less, the graphics are decent. You do not need a very powerful computer to run this game, a 1.5ghz processor, 512mb ram, and 126 mb graphics card should be able to handle it, not on the highest settings of course.

What I think
I think the game is really fun, there are several expansion packs that you can purchase to make the whole experience even better. I give it a 9/10 -1 for the lack of single player campaign, which is not really important i just think every game should have a campaign. So, I recommend battlefield 2 for lan parties and fun.

Timeshift: Gameplay Review

time shift, timeshift guide, timeshift review, timeshift

Platforms: PC, XBOX

Timeshift was released in August, 2007. The game received mostly positive reviews, but it was lacking several key elements that most gamers look for in a game. However, when i first started playing the game i was hooked, i finished it in a couple days. No, i was not playing the game for a couple days straight, even though i probably could have if it was longer. But, sadly i have a life, actually i don’t have a life, but your not supposed to know that, oops. Anyways, I found the game quite entertaining. Of course, every game can not be perfect, except for Half Life 2, that game is just perfect. Timeshift was not such a big hit in the gaming world, I did not even hear about it until this year, just a few months back when a friend recommended it to me. Anyways, lets talk about some aspects of the game.

GRAPHICS

The graphics in Timeshift are really quite impressive. The effects and overall textures of objects are of the highest quality, the graphics are just great. You don’t even need a good PC to run it, that is one thing I really liked about how the game was made. Like Call of Duty Modern Warfare, you can play it on ordinary computers and it still looks amazing. The graphics are great, the effects are also really well done. Heres a SS.

GAMEPLAY

As you can see it looks like allot of fun.
The gameplay of this FPS is quite different compared to others in it’s genre. It is another FPS that allows you to manipulate time, except unlike FEAR, you have the ability to reverse time and stop it all together. The way they integrated time control into the game was quite impressive, you have to regularly control time in a certain way to allow you to progress through different areas of the game. Of course slow motion is very useful to use when it comes to defeating your opponents. You use an assortment of guns throughout the game as well, one gun particular shoots a explosive dart at enemies. Enemies body parts are destructible, meaning if you shoot a enemy from a certain angle the body part you hit most directly will fly off. As you can imagine the game is quite gory, which makes it quite fun to play. The game play is really fun.

The Plot

Now, this is the only aspect of the game that i did not like too much. Basically, two time traveling suits were made, one called the Alpha and the other the Beta. Someone takes the Beta and uses it to become a ruler of a certain area. You than take the Alpha suit, and follow him in time and try to get back the Beta suit. Of course, your suit starts to fail, leaving you trapped in time searching for the character with the Beta suit, eventually you find him and yadi yada. The idea is great, but something was lacking. I mean, i did not really get involved in the game’s story. You basically have a list of objectives and you have accomplish them. I’m not saying the story is bad I’m saying there was not allot of depth to it.

All in All

So basically, the game is quite good though it could be better. The graphics are great, the gameplay is reallu fun, and the story is ok. All in all I will give Timeshift a score of 7/10, of course, everyone has different opinions, you might really like it.

Half Life 2 Gameplay Review

Half Life 2 Episode 2, Half life 2, aim down your sights, half life, edward norton, half life 2 main picture, hl2 cover

Half life 2 was released in November 2004, gamers worldwide are still talking about and replaying this game. The game combines impressive graphics with a intense plot, throwing the player right into the shoes of the main character known as Edward Norton. The only aspect of the game that was heavily criticized was that Edward Norton, never says anything, he’s the main character of the game yet he never speaks. Thats probably the only thing players disliked about the game.

Anyway, the sequel to Half Life 2 called Half Life 2 Episode 2 was released in October 2007. Episode 2 includes all the elements of Half Life 2, but with improved graphics. Episode 2 is not really a full game in itself, it can be completed in about six or seven hours depending on the player. I was able to complete it in about seven hours. Even though the game might be short, its a game experience that will blow your mind. You play Edward Norton, and continue from where the story left of in Half Life 2. In order to truly experience the game, you should play with high quality surround sound headphones a preferably a large monitor if you have one, the games 3d sound effects are truly amazing. Half life is a classic first person shooter game which all gamers must play at least once. One aspect of the game which i love the most is the game engine physics. You can pick up pretty much anything with your gravity gun and launch of at your enemies, a toilet, a notebook, tables, chairs, pretty much any item in the game can be picked up . In fact, throughout the game you will find certain areas that can’t be passed unless you use the game physics to help get Edward over a certain obstacle. Like, for example, you will find a plank of wood balanced on a pipe, you have to place certain heavy objects on one side to withstand your weight and allow you to walk across to the other side. The game is definitely in my list of top first person shooters of all time, followed closely by the Call of Duty franchise, which i will be talking about in a future article.

The bad thing about Half Life 2 Episode 2 is that it is really short, as i mentioned earlier you can complete in six or so hours. It sucks that it is so short because once you truly get involved in the game’s story its over, and you have to wait for another sequel, which may or may not come out. Also, Edward is mute as usual, which you tend to get used to after awhile. All in all, the game is about a 10/10 in my eyes, that goes for Half Life 2 also. If you haven’t played it I highly recommend you do, as soon as possible.

The game is usually not sold alone, since it douse not really count as a full game. It is packaged with two other games, Portal, and Team Fortress 2, in a package called the Orange Box. I’ll be talking about the Orange Box in more detail later. Follow my blog for more articles on random video games, I will updating it regularly so come back soon.

Fear: Gameplay Review

F.E.A.R is a horror themed first person shooter, it was released in October 17, 2005. The game utilizes a extremely efficient game engine called Jupiter EX. The Jupiter game engine is not very well known, but it can power some really impressive games. FEAR has excellent graphics, and effects, making it one of my favorite first person shooters. Basically, if you haven’t played FEAR, you are missing out on something, just be prepared to freak out. The game can be really scary at times, you constantly run into ghosts, alma, and a creepy little girl dressed in red who enjoys stalking you for some reason.
fear, girl from fear, aim down your sights, fear, project origin, fear one
You got to play this game with surround sound headphones, make sure to put the volume high but not too high. The sounds in the game make the atmosphere constantly creepy, you never know when something is going to jump out of some little dark corner, you are always nervous, which makes the game amazing. Of course, the game is not just creepy, the game play is also quite amazing. It is one of the first, first person shooters to utilize bullet time ingame.

The bullet time effects are really quite amazing, you can see bullets whizzing around, particles flying everywhere, blood, body parts spinning in the air, explosions, basically anything you do in-game with bulletime activated is amazing. Of course, your bullet time is limited, it regenerates after time.
You come across an assortment of guns in the game, from assault rifles to nail guns to laser sniper guns that completely disintegrate enemies. You also got grenades, a certain type sticks to enemies, causing them to blow up into millions of pieces. So? the games got bullet time and horror elements, what else does it have? Well it has got quite a interesting plot as well.
Basically, you are a recruit for a US special ops group called F.E.A.R (First Encounter Assault Recon) which specializes in investigating paranormal events. You go in search of a character called Paxton Fettel, who kills off everyone within ATC headquarters by telepathically controlling his soldiers. So, you chasing down this guy, shooting your way through levels and constantly encountering ghosts, having strange hallucinations, and running into the little girl in red.
Your character, known as point man, is involved in a operation called Project Origin. Project Origin was a screwed up plan to make people with psychic powers by artificially impregnating a psychic known as Alma, putting her in a coma, and forcing her to give birth while in a coma. Alma gives birth to two sons, the first unknown, and the second known as Paxton Fettel, the character you are constantly searching for. Of course, Alma is released, and she is really pissed, but you will just have to play to find out the rest.
The game is quite interesting, but of course, the game is not for everyone because it can be quite scary. But seriously, stop being a pussy and go get the game. The only thing I disliked about the game is that it can get quite repetitive after awhile, but that only lasts for awhile, and your back at the edge of your seat.
I rate it 9/10. See the system requirements below to see if your PC can handle it, you can get it for Xbox and Ps2 as well.
